Sarah Laurence - Oakland Cty Teacher of the Year
Lamphere Schools is thrilled to announce that Sarah Laurence, 2nd grade teacher at Simonds Elementary - Home of the Superstars, has been named the 2023 Oakland County Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Laurence has taught elementary students at Lamphere Schools for 20+ years making lifelong connections with her students. Braelyn Burton, a 10th grader at Lamphere High School, wrote in her nomination support letter that “Mrs. Laurence’s constant positivity kept her classroom feeling exciting, safe and comfortable. Her constant support helped me through a few difficult situations; she was such a comfort and helped me stay focused in high school. Whenever someone asks me what I want to be when I grow up I answer that I want to grow up to be just like Mrs. Laurence."
Parent Ariana Moskwa adds “Being able to trust in another person to care for your child for so many hours out of the week is not the easiest task - especially these days. You hope that they love your child as much as you do. With Sarah, you never doubt for a second the love she has for her students and her profession. She is 100% our Teacher of the Year.”
"Sarah is the teacher students come back to see, the one who they want for their own children, and the one they message on her birthday. She is loved and respected by colleagues, children, and families," said Jen Vivian, 3rd Grade teacher at Simonds.” “Sarah’s commitment to teaching will have a lasting impact. Because of her, children learn how to advocate for themselves, treat others with respect, and how to be good humans. Her work will have a ripple effect, spreading good in the community and the world for years to come."
We surprised Sarah this afternoon with the announcement. Steven Snead, Supervisor of Curriculum and Assessment at Oakland Schools presented Sarah with the award, Lamphere's Superintendent, Dale Steen shared congratulations from the entire District with a gift and there were plenty of hugs and happy tears from Sarah's parents Mary & Dan Eidson, daughter Emma, best friend in the world Jen Vivian along with Jen's mother and son.
Please join all of us at Lamphere Schools in congratulating Sarah on this very deserved award.
